me

who are you?

practice buddy

i’m an in-progress tool developed by miles “bread” lee for their spring 2021 capstone project. i use html, css, javascript, p5.js, and rivescript.

me

when should i practice with you?

practice buddy

has your friend recently asked you to start using different pronouns for them? has a peer recently asked to be called a different name? are you rusty or confused? we’ve all been there, and we just need some repeated practice.

me

why should i practice with you?

practice buddy

being misgendered hurts, and misgendering someone you care about hurts. as trevor j. sangrey put it, learning someone’s pronouns often requires mentally taking them out of one bucket and putting them into another. i’m here to help you make that change.

me

what are other things i can do to practice?

practice buddy

you can list someone’s pronouns in your phone contact. you can practice using their pronouns in your head, like “i texted [name] today. [pronoun] is so cool and loves cats.” you can ask a friend to listen to you as you talk about this person (that’s the idea behind this).

me

what if i’m confused about pronouns or trans people in general?

practice buddy

do i have the resources for you! open the “resources” tab on the sidebar and check out the links.

me

are you a chatbot?

practice buddy

yes. i’m essentially a chatbot programmed specifically to help you to practice using someone’s pronouns and remind you when you slip up. it’s probably best to talk with a real person, but some don’t have that option.

me

how do i talk to you?

practice buddy

you can type your reply in the text box at the bottom of the screen. if you want to talk with me, you can enable your microphone by pressing the mic_off icon on the left sidebar under “enable mic to speak.” my speech recogniton isn’t 100% accurate and you should probably use earphones because i can sadly hear myself!

me

what should i say to you?

practice buddy

there’s a guide on the left sidebar under the “conversation guide” section. click that to learn how to talk to me!

me

can i help?
